Mahjong Solitaire is one of the world's most famous logic games and an excellent visual attention trainer, which originally gained its greatest popularity in Japan, China, Southeast Asian and East Asian countries. This game comes in two varieties: the traditional Asian version for four (4) players, and online Mahjong game for one person, which has been implemented as a graphical game on desktop computers, as well as other devices, such as cell phones, tablets and so on.

At the start of any layout on the playing field tiles in front of the user form a multi-layered figure (Anchor, Bridges, Fortress, and others). The tiles differ from each other by symbols and images, but each of them has a pair (they are identical to each other). On this site you can play Mahjong for free and without registration.

The goal of Mahjong

The main goal is to find all identical pairs of tiles (with the same pattern) on the game table and remove them. The game is considered won as soon as all tiles are removed from the table.

Mahjong Rules

All actions performed in this Mahjong Solitaire puzzle are subject to a number of rules, which must be observed to make the correct moves. Select two tiles of the same type and remove them with the following rules in mind:

1. If there are no other tiles above the tile, then you can delete it;
2. If a tile does not touch the other tiles with its left and right sides at the same time, then you can delete it.

If both of these conditions are met, then such tiles are called "open".

Let's turn to picture #1. Tiles with the same pattern are marked with green lines. You can see that at least one of the long sides of these tiles is free and there are no other "bricks" on top of them, so they can be removed at this point.

Tactics to solve and tips

To solve the Mahjong Solitaire game as quickly as possible, you need to follow a few tips and strategies. It should be noted that in almost any course any of the puzzles available on this site has at least one correct solution. Let's look in more detail at the strategies and tips that should be followed:

1. Think about your actions a few moves ahead to minimize the time required to make a decision and complete the layout with a victory. Before making a move, be sure to inspect the entire playing space, determine which pairs of tiles cover the most number of other tiles, which of them should be removed first to provoke the appearance of new moves (you need to identify the pairs that block the largest number of tiles lying below, and try to remove them first). For example, when starting any kind of Mahjong game, it is best to remove tiles, which are located at the very top of any piece (on picture #2 these "bricks" are marked with a green line). Note noted that if the move made seemed wrong to the user or when removing some pair they got useless tiles, they can use "Undo" function to make a different sequence of actions.
2. Always tidy up the top layers. According to the Mahjong puzzle rules, if a tile overlaps another tile, it cannot be removed. The upper layers always overlap the lower ones, so always remove the upper “bricks” lying above them to free the lower ones. Try to do it evenly layer by layer, so as not to get a skew and – as a consequence – a deadlock.
3. Selecting from three. Sometimes a situation arises where three identical tiles are free at once. To choose the right solution when removing a pair of them, you need to look carefully and find out – the removing of which leads to the opening of the largest number of matching subsequent tiles. For example, in picture #3 there are three “bricks” with the same pattern: A, B, C. Removing any pair together with tile A will give very few new moves, so the best solution is to remove pair B and C.
4. Develop your visual memory. Some tile patterns look very similar, especially when you have to quickly scan many tiles over and over again. It is important to be able to distinguish all the tiles correctly and often remember where you last saw that piece.

Game Interface

The game has special interface control buttons and text indicators for user convenience:

• "Mahjong Games". Clicking on this button brings up a pop-up window, which contains all the available puzzle levels. In this window the player may click on the picture of any level, click on the "Random Game" button, which will select a random level from the list, or click on the "Close" button.
• "New game". This functional element is designed to generate a completely new tile layout. The previous progress (time, points) will be reset.
• "Shuffle". This button lets you shuffle the tiles keeping their current location, but changing the images on them. Each such click decreases the number of points scored. To make the final result better, try to use this button as rarely as possible.
• "Undo". This button serves to rewind the current state of the game one or more turns back. Each click on it reduces the player's total score, worsening the final result.
• "Hint". When clicking on this functional element on the playing field, the user is shown a visual hint in the form of two highlighted solitaire tiles, which will disappear if you select them.
